Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel says the transfer fees required to sign elite players have become "a bit scary" but accepts clubs will not always find value in the market.
This summer alone, Chelsea have invested more than £150m in Tuchel's team under the new ownership group of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. Raheem Sterling was the first to join from Man City for £47.5m and they were soon joined by Kalidou Koulibaly (£34m) from Napoli. Carney Chukwuemeka (£20m) and Marc Cucureella (£60m) have meanwhile arrived.
Chelsea isn't done yet. Either way, the Blues intend to sign Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana, but signing the 21-year-old could require a fee of nearly £80million. There is also interest in Barcelona duo Frenkie de Jong:
who could cost around £60m and Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang, who the La Liga giants have listed for £25m, Chelsea could still sign several before the September deadline There have been changes in his line-up despite the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly.
In a summer when 's Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have already left for La Liga and Marcos Alonso will soon follow the two into the same league, coach Thomas Tuchel has had to spend the bulk of the transfer budget on defence-rebuilds."I will not comment.
As good as your question is, I will not comment," replied the manager when asked directly about the Leicester defender at his Tottenham press conference ahead of the game on Friday afternoon. "We could use another centre-back."
Defenders if you look at the numbers and that we're playing with three. Admittedly, the profile of the three boys is a bit different.
We can play with Azpi (Cesar Azpilicueta) who is more of a full-back than a centre-back.(Marc) Cucurella, it's also possible [to play on the side of a back three]. Neither can play as a central midfielder. So we could use one more central defender.
look what happens Soccer.London understand Chelsea's third offer, due very soon, will eclipse the £80m Man United paid the Foxes for Harry Maguire when all add-ons are taken into account.
